Safety Guidelines
- Physically check behind the vehicle before backing up—don’t rely solely on mirrors or memory.
- Securely fasten any loaded cargo or tools in the vehicle.
- Back up slowly and cautiously.
- Remain seated and hold on while the vehicle is moving. Use seatbelts if available.
- Alert passengers about upcoming turns or bumps.
- Adjust speed for current conditions, especially in bad weather.
- Adhere to campus speed limits: 10 MPH on asphalt, 5 MPH on concrete.
- Use extra caution when turning, backing, or navigating blind corners and busy areas.
- Always yield to pedestrians.
- Avoid driving through narrow or tight areas—take alternate routes if unsure.
- Keep all limbs inside the vehicle until it comes to a complete stop.
- District vehicles without plates or registration may not be driven on city streets except to cross at 90 degrees.
- Watch for potholes, dips, and uneven surfaces.
- Stay alert to pedestrians and other vehicles, especially in parking lots and crosswalks.
- Do not exceed the cart's passenger or cargo capacity.
- Engage the parking brake or turn off the ignition and take the keys when parking.
- Immediately report maintenance issues (e.g., faulty brakes, leaks, worn tires) to your supervisor.
- Stop using the cart if any safety systems are not working.
- Report accidents to Campus Safety and your supervisor promptly.
- Do not engage in horseplay while operating the cart.
- Never text while driving. If you must use your phone, pull over and stop first.
- Use district vehicles only for official ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÊÓ business within campus areas.
- Use caution on campus roadways and yield to traffic. Clear any obstructions to your view.
- Securely store unattended vehicles if they will be left for several hours.
